IPRPA Working Committee Meeting 2012

On 13 August 2012, IPRPA Working Committee Meeting 2012 was held at the Customs Headquarters Building.
To begin, Mr. Andrew Ki, Head of Intellectual Property Investigation Bureau reported the enforcement achievement of Hong Kong Customs in the first half of year 2012. He outlined the crime trend with highlight on a Megaupload case that Hong Kong Customs, through international cooperation with the U.S. law enforcement agencies, smashed a large-scale transnational cyberlocker syndicate in January 2012. Mr. Ki also revealed that in order to further underpin Customs enforcement capability of combating cyber crime, the Bureau would establish an “Electronic Crime Investigation Centre” (ECIC). The HK$4M worth of ECIC is expected to come into operation by the end of 2012 the earliest.
Thereafter, Assistant Superintendent Mr. YK Fok, reviewed the recent activities of YAS in 2011 and 2012, including the “YAS Study Tour to Guangzhou” in December 2011, “Reciprocal Visit by Guangdong Copyright Bureau, Guangzhou Copyright Bureau and Five Guangzhou Colleges”, and the “Promote Creativity, Respect Intellectual Property Right” Film Show. He also introduced to the meeting the “IPR Protection Umbrella Design Competition” and the “2012 MyGame Design Competition”, which aimed at promoting creativity among youngsters and respect for IPR.
The Working Committee had also discussed and reached a preliminary consensus on the incorporation of IPRPA for mapping out its future development.
