Customs neutralizes the largest case of pirated optical disc store in this year

Customs officers neutralized a pirated optical disc store in an industrial building in To Kwa Wan this morning (April 15).

Customs officers seized about 200,000 pieces of pirated optical discs during the operation, which mainly involved Japanese and Korean dramas with a total value of about $5,000,000. They also arrested three females and one male aged 24 to 43.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the pirated optical discs seized would be supplied mainly to the retail outlets in various districts.

According to the Copyright Ordinance, any person who possesses infringing copy for sale is liable to prosecution. The maximum penalty is an imprisonment for four years and a fine of $50,000 for each infringing copy. Reports of pirated articles selling activities can be made to the Customs 24-hour hotline at 2545 6182.
