Customs officers of Intellectual Property Investigation Bureau raided a toys company in Tsim Sha Tsui yesterday (July 15). They seized 47 computers worth about $140,000, which were installed with pirated software. This is a case involving the largest number of computers cracked by Hong Kong Customs.
Customs officers arrested 3 men, aged between 35 and 56, who were the chairman, the executive director and head of the IT department of the company. They are on bail pending further investigation.
Acting on complaint that pirated software was used by a toys company in the course of its business, Customs officers mounted investigations, and conducted an operation yesterday.
The company involved, being the largest in the corporate piracy cases cracked, had around 80 employees. The seized computers were installed with popular office and design software, such as Microsoft Office, Autodesk AutoCAD and Adobe Photoshop. The market value of the genuine version of these software was about $400,000.
